Three District Early Childhood Coordinator
Qualifications: Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
(Certified Teacher of Young Children with Special Needs)
Minimum Three years teaching or providing services to young children
Requirements: Ability to advocate for young children and families.
Knowledge of child development and their special needs
Good organizational skills and ability to be flexible
Ability to act as liaison for families of children with special needs
Reports to: Director of Pupil Personnel Services
Responsibilities:
- Implement Federally mandated child search activities in the three district towns
- Coordinate and assist in screening and assessments for special needs of preschoolers aged 3 to 5 years.
- Coordinate and assist in the screening of all entering kindergarteners and assign assessments as needed
- Coordinate the IEP process for preschoolers and kindergarteners, participating in evaluations, conducting Team meetings, writing IEPs and coordinating progress reports
- Write and submit Federal and State early childhood grants in collaboration with the Director of Special Education and Business manager
- Prepare and submit state reports on services to young children in the district
- Participate in district PK and Kindergarten level staff meetings as scheduled by the Director of Curriculum and Assessment
- Coordinate with the DC&A the development and review of early childhood curriculum and assessments
- Lead and support early education teachers and principals in the accreditation process
- Schedule and lead CARE courses for early childhood paraprofessional staff
- Provide outreach to and serve as liaison to outside agencies serving young children with special needs (ex REACH)
- Schedule and lead ECE Readiness and Curriculum committee meetings
- Provide consultation and supervision of the Community and Family Engagement grant liaison
- Serve as resource person to parents, teachers and other school staff with regard to resources, programs, and services for young children
- Provide and/or coordinate in-services and training programs in early childhood instruction and assessment for district staff
